I just returned from a new CA POLYCENTER customer. It was a suprise to see that CA is shipping now "our" products: - on tapes with the CA label - with documents, and the front pages has the CA logo. - with paks with a generic authorization number, unlimited usage , no termination or release date...etc. - CA delivered everything, also things like accounting chargeback, what the customer doesn't need; looks like Polycenter is considered as one big product. - and with consulting; CA pays Digital to deliver it (I'm the lucky one). But that's just FYI. The customer wants to implement PCM and PSW. Management platform should be unix, production systems are mainly OpenVMS and some unix. So I installed PSW V2.2 consolidator on unix, followed by PSW on OpenVMS. On OpenVMS V6.2 I installed V2.2. Lucky me; I brought the ECO3 (that was not on the CA tapes!), so the TCP/IP connection between consolidator and agent worked. Unfortunately they also have some OpenVMS V5.5-2 systems, and they do not have the intention to migrate to V6. As far as I know, TCP/IP only worked on an OpenVMS agent starting with PSW V2.2-eco1. And PSW V2.2 requires OpenVMS V6. Question: what do I risk if I edit the kitinstal.com of V2.2 and V2.2-eco3, remove the version check, and install the stuff on an OpenVMS V5.5-2 system? Did somebody try this already? Or does someone see another solution? Thanks and best regards, Johan

994.1 | Rather use the dedicated, although unsupported, solution | AZUR::HUREZ | Connectivity & Computing Services @VBE. DTN 828-5159 | Thu Feb 06 1997 08:17 | 18 |
> Question: what do I risk if I edit the kitinstal.com of V2.2 and V2.2-eco3, > remove the version check, and install the stuff on an OpenVMS V5.5-2 system? Well, it won't work as it will try to link SNS$TCPIP_SHR.EXE anyway, this is an image written in DEC C, and which needs the new version of the DEC C RTL and DEC threads runtime. Instead, you might want to use the special (and officially unsupported) kit in AZUR::ADG$DISK:[PUBLIC.PSW22.VMS55_AGENT] which provides support for UCX on the Agent side, and a base level code which is equivalent to the ECO03. Olivier, Thanks a lot. I'll give this kit a try next week. All this proves again that the sale of POLYCENTER to CA will not help us any further in doing business and get satified customers. I'll raise the topic with CA, and I wonder how they'll react. I'm not sure they'll understand what I'll be talking about. Best regards, Johan | |||||

Olivier, I works just fine (only the IVP failed). Thanks a lot. Johan |
