987.6 | No VMI$KWD directory, "NO" IVP option failed also | OTOOA::OHH | | Fri Jan 24 1997 12:57 | 31 |
| Hi Olivier,
I do not see directory called VMI$KWD. When I tried to re-install
with "NO" IVP but, it also failed with same error.
Following is the portion of installation output.
--------------------
This kit contains an Installation Verification Procedure (IVP)
to
verify the correct installation of the System Watchdog. It can
be run
prior to the conclusion of this procedure by answering "YES" to
the IVP
prompt or invoked after the installation as follows:
@SYS$TEST:SNS$IVP.COM
* Do you want to run the IVP after the installation [YES]? NO

| Typically, the work directory would be created as
sys$specific:[sysupd.SNSVAXECO03022]
VMI$KWD (or is it VMI$WKD) would be VMSinstal internal logical
name pointing to the mentioned work directory. Do
$ show logi sys*
$ show dev/file sys$ssydevice:
and post the results.

| Unfortunately the SNS_PROB.TXT is not there anymore. And
non-existence of SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSUPD.SNSVAX...] was expected.
Normally VMSinstal cleans up things after installation so this
work directory should really exist while you were running
VMSinstal.

| SNS_PROB.TXT is there now (KAOSMP::SNS_PROB.TXT).
If file is older that 23 hours, it gets deleted on this area (kaosmp::).

| Oops, sorry, I've added a reply which vanished with the crash of my
AlphaStation 3100 (network connection problem, it seems...)
The SNS_PROB.TXT file shows a lot of SNS$CONS_nnn processes that should
have been killed prior to instal the software.
I'd advise you to run @SYS$STARTUP:SNS$SHUTDOWN.COM, then check for
presence of SNS$* processes persistant presence and possibly stop them
manually if needed, prior to reinstal.
If it doesn't work, may I get an access to your node in order to try
the installation by myself?
Regards,
-- Olivier.
