I. HBO produced episodes
Introduction by Ray Bradbury
"People ask where do you get your ideas. Well right here. All
this is my Martian landscape. Somewhere in this room is an
African veldt. Just beyond perhaps is a small Illinois town where
I grew up. And I'm surrounded on every side by my magicians
toyshop. I'll never starve here. I just look around, find what I
need, and begin. I'm Ray Bradbury, and this is" The Ray Bradbury
Theater. "Well then, right now what shall it be. Out of all this
what do I choose to make a story. I never know where the next one
will take me. The trip, exactly one half exhilaration, exactly
one half terror."
1 Marionettes, Inc.
A nagging wife prompts a computer salesman to take desperate
measures.
Additional introduction (HBO and video only)
"Its a new age. Even the coffee machines are talking to us. Maybe
the next thing will be they'll tell us not only what to drink,
but when to drink. But what if they're wrong. I wonder if old
Geppetto had any idea of what notions he let loose on the world."

"You know it's amazing how fond I've become of the sound of this
typewriter's, ah, till the power fails, very comforting." [lights
candle] "Well like a night-light when we were kids in a dark
room. Remember how it used to be? When we'd wander around our
homes and be terrified of the littlest things. Of course it's not
true for us nowadays. At the moments like this what we long for
is an old warm friend and I have one right here." [uncovers old
typewriter, blows off dust and blows out candle] "Damn."

Additional introduction (HBO and video only)
"The trouble with having all these things around for years is you
stop seeing them. There's nothing new, its a cliche. You look at
it, you don't see it any more. So sometimes you have to make a
search, to find something new somewhere, perhaps beyond. But even
down there the streets, the people, the cars, it's nothing new.
I've seen it all. And yet, and yet ..."

X. Notes
1. Episodes 4-6 were shown together as "Strange Tales: Ray
Bradbury" on HBO and are available on video that way. The HBO
episodes are also available on video in various other
combinations.
2. For the airing of the HBO episodes on USA, part of Bradbury's
introduction, his closing, and a portion of the episodes were
edited to fit a half hour timeslot with commercials.
3. The dates for the HBO episodes are unconfirmed. The date
given for USA is the first airing date as well as it could be
determined.
4. Information is culled from the actual air tapes. The
synopses through the USA fourth production come from various
TV guides and occasionally my own input. The synopses for
the USA fifth production were done by me.
5. The principle credits are the credits listed in the opening
credits, and in the closing credits up through the cast.
6. Thanks to Jerry Boyajian for supplying some information for a
few episodes.
