| Babylon 5 was not cancelled after one episode. The network backing
it (Warner's PTEN) waffled on the original decision, and eventually
decided to just fund the pilot and see how well it does. From info
posted by the producer, JMS, on GEnie (reposted on Usenet), it appears
their ratings were better than expected. A decision is expected
any day now. (It may already have been made, but there's a delay
between the decision and the time JMS posts it, and a second delay
between the GEnie posting and the time that a kind volunteer reposts
to Usenet.)
Frankly, I'm hopeful for Babylon-5. It was far from perfect, but if we
insisted on perfect pilots, then nothing would ever make it. The acting
and directing were both weak, but when you discover that they did the
whole thing with no time for dress rehersals, you have to ask how good it
can be, once they're given time and a budget to do it right. With writers
like Harlan Ellison and David Gerrold behind it, it's bound to be good.

| Wild Palms is a mini-series produced(?) by Oliver Stone to be shown
in May. Starring Jim Belushi, and set in the near future, it
is supposed to deal heavily with virtual reality. Other than that,
I don't know too much. I get the feeling Belushi is supposed to be
a studio producer, or maybe a detective, but that last part may
just be association with some of the other things he's done.
I've got the question mark after 'produced' up above, because
I was first going to write 'directed by' and then a random
factoid popped up in my head that said 'three episodes, three different
directors'. I can give no substance to this factoid, so just keep
an eye out for the show, okay?

name wrong, it's a men's fashion/lifestyle mag of some sort.)
