1131.0. "Lawrence Watt-Evans" by TOOK::OCONNOR (Dodge Vegga-matic there in the parking lot) Tue Feb 16 1993 09:36

I've just started reading Lawerence Watt-Evans. My wife and I read him
on the road and his books seem to have a good feel to them. The
Misenchanted Sword is a humorous look at a warrior. The Crosstime
tales are a set of short stories connected by a single theme. He seems
to write well in both hard SF and fantasy. Any other comments about
    this author?

I read his gods of dishtar(sp) series a very interesting series. It
starts as a small adventure by a man/overman seeking fame and ends
with him fighting temtation and manipulation by the gods to not be
famous for the wrong things. It is so suttle step by step the guy
gets sucked. In each step he fights to do the right thing and step
by he destoys and kills more people.

I like his stuff--he seems to take a lot of care in setting
    up the background.

In particular, I like the way _Misenchanted_Sword_ doesn't
turn into a swashbuckling Swords&Sorcery fantasy. The plot
    works well--things follow logically, etc.

Lawrence Watt-Evans has a new book off call "Out of This World." It
part of three books series. In this book he mixed fantasy(wizard and
barbarian swordsmen) with science fiction(Galactic Empire) in another
    universal.
