| Shivering World - Kathy Tyers - ISBN 0-553-29051-7 June 1991
This is her most recent book. The story concerns a young woman, Grasha
who has a genetic disease that will slowly cause her to starve at the
cell level. Rumor has it that there is illegal research in genetic
manipulation being done on a pioneer planet. She accepts a position
with the consortium providing the terraforming expertise in order to
try and get help with her disease.
Grasha's mother is the chief investigator of the government department
responsible for uncovering illegal genetic research and putting and end
to it. This of course does not endear Grasha to the colonists. The
individual that she is replacing was "murdered" and several attempts are
made on her life.
In addition to Grasha's problems, there are political problems between
rival group within the colonists, between the colonists and the
consortium, and natural and unnatural disasters to cope with.
