990.0. "_Moonwise_ (Greer Ilene Gilman)" by LABRYS::CONNELLY (Television must be destroyed!) Thu Jun 13 1991 00:57

_Moonwise_ by Greer Ilene Gilman is a very strange fantasy. For the
first half of the book i thought the author must've written it while
on acid. After that the plot becomes a bit more comprehensible, but
the language remains incredibly dense and cryptic...i think if i had
a comprehensive knowledge of old English ballads and nursery rhymes
that it might have been easier to understand, but i enjoyed it in
spite of the numerous mysterious allusions and archetypal situations.
Sort of like _The Hobbit_ as it might've been written by James Joyce.
The only comparable book i can think of is Holdstock's _Lavondyss_,
but this is more quirky in its language and narrative style.
