957.0. "Tad Williams - Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" by WOOK::LEE (Wook... Like 'Book' with a 'W') Tue Feb 19 1991 17:40

I checked and found that there wasn't a topic for Tad Williams who is now two
thirds of the way through writing a fantasy trilogy called _Memory, Sorrow and
Thorn_ which are the names of the three swords which figure prominently in the
books. The first two are published and who knows when the third one will be.
I have a bad habit of finding trilogies (and other series) as the author writes
them. It happened to me with the Belgariad and with the second Thomas Covenant
series and now this one. When will I ever learn?

The first two books are:

The Dragonbone Chair
Stone of Farewell

I'll put in a review when I'm done with the second volume. In the meantime,
others can feel free to comment.

I've read both volumes and have really enjoyed them. However, the second
book came out about 15-16 months (at least!) after the first book. Having
read many books in between it was tough to remember all the characters.
However, I would still recommend these books (don't have time to write an
official review).

957.2A good read! I'd give it an 8!SIOG::CRIPPENThu Feb 21 1991 07:0715
I'm glad somebody started a topic on Tad Williams. I had intended to
do so myself, but never got around to it.

I read _The_Dragonbone_Chair_ around Christmas and haven't as yet been
able to find the second. That's not too suprising as I'm in Dublin,
Ireland. Things take time to get here.

I really enjoyed reading _TDC_! I was able to lose myself in the world
Tad Williams has created. His characters are interesting and have a
depth to them that is refreshing. I admit I'm an easy reader to
please, but I thought this book was fairly special.

    I can't wait to read _Stone_of_Farewell_!

Well, I just finished _The_Stone_of_Farewell_ and I can't wait to read
the next book in the series. Does anyone have any idea when it will be
available? Hard cover or paperback, it makes no difference. I want
    this book!!!!!!!

for Tad Williams; the listings cover everything planned through December 1991.

957.9Book 3 still in progress...VSSCAD::SIGELWed Apr 15 1992 18:097
Re last couple:

Given that Tad has yet to finish book three, and still has well over
a hundred pages to go, I doubt very much we will see the book before
spring 1993. And possibly later.

According to Andromeda bookshop, the third book will be published
in the UK in April. If it is not, Andromeda also do imports of
big selling publications. (Funnily enough, some of the imports are
cheaper than the UK price when finally published here!)
