Over the Xmas holidays, I read the second novel by this author and, like the first novel, I enjoyed it. Since I couldn't find any reference to the author in the conference, I'll post this note. In Conquest Born - This is the first novel and is based on the idea that there are two inter-galatic races who develop the "ideal warrior" to conquer the other race. After lots of twist, turns and dynamic action, the two warriors discover they were meant for each other. The Madness Season - This is another interesting plot. The basic premis is that a hive race has conquered several other galatic races including earth. Nobody knows how to fight, let alone defeat this hive race, until along comes the main character whom we would describe as a vampire. Both books are pretty massive (500-600 pages each) and as is common there are some slow parts. However, both are well worth the read IMO. Paul

The first book held my attention all the way through. But now i can't remember much of anything about it. Could be a bad sign (about the book or about me, i'm not sure!;-)). paul

I give a thumbs up for In_Conquest_Born. Interesting characters and world situation. As usual, if there are two groups with different charateristics they both decide their version of life is the superior one. And, as usual, they both have problems they try to ignore or cover up. I like books where it's not set in stone that we have a "good guy" and a "bad guy". At first it seems clear but as you learn more about the two societies it becomes ambiguous. As a bit of explaination, I'd call this a space opera. There are multiple worlds and space travel and exotic cultures and, of course, star wars. liesl

Tried to start this book on three occasions, but something (and I think it was a combination of the cover art and the graceless prose) turned me off on all attempts. Just wasn't able to muscle through it, and, by the way, that is unusual for me. I can and do stomach the most amazing crap on a day to day basis... Max |
