| I read it last weekend. It's just OK Asimov. My impression was
a pretty thin plot idea puffed up into a novel. It involves some
fairly conventional notions (e.g., a communal alien intelligence).
The development of an FTL drive occurs as a subplot. There are
occasional "hooks" into the Foundation/Robot universe; this novel
takes place much earlier than any of them, sort of a pre-pre-prequel.
My recommendation is wait for it to appear in paperback, unless you've
absolutely got to have it now. It's certainly not a loser, and
I don't regret the outlay for a hardbound copy, but I have no
resistance when it comes to books.
I can provide a more comprehensive plot summary if desired.

| yep, I took the plunge :)
thou I thought the cover (the hardback, not the jacket) not serious
enough. And the cover is purple! I've got a UK edition, how about those
from the US?
