The Pacific coast finally experiences "the big" one. During the
recovery period that follows, a seemingly normal man (Mr. Moon)
shows up at a recovery station to undergo some routine medical
exams. The medical/military types are mystified when Mr. Moon's
x-rays reveal two stomachs instead of one, and other clues which
eventually lead the powers that be to believe that Mr. Moon is
an ET (with bovine, as opposed to ape, origins). One person,
the Secretary of Energy??, also believes Mr. Moon is a spy. Now
why would he think that? Because, it turns out, that the "big one"
was actually triggered by a DOE fusion research accident/explosion
(actually a secret space drive test gone bad). And said secretary
thinks Mr. Moon's appearance is more than a coincidence. At this
point, the book reminded me very much of Greg Bear's _Forge_of_GOD,
with one faction of the characters believing Moon, and the other
half suspicious of him, and the President not knowing who to listen
to. Turns out Moon is a spy, but not by choice, seems a really
millitant group of crystal/rock based life forms are threatening
to kill Moon's people unless he locates and turns over to them,
the person(s) responsible for the space-drive research.
There are quite a few plot twists throughout the story, and I found
it interesting and well written. Hope this helps. Thanks.
-Steve
PS, I left out enough so that if anyone who hasn't read this one finds
a copy, they can still experience a few surprises.

| It took me long enough, but I finally dug out my copy of the book.
It's by Philip Knobel, and was published by Jove Books in 1979.

| OK, you want solid, incontrovertible evidence?
I didn't know the answer to Len's "Lost and Found" request in

| Or so you say in attempting to prove you can't prove a negative,
thereby proving you right again!!

| Not to interruptٲ]x4v, but I happen to have seen a copy of this
book just two days ago at Annie's Book Swap, Groton, Mass.
It's on Boston Road (Main Street, or Rt. 119, as the locals say).
If you get there soon, it's yours for about sixty cents.
