Hello SF readers, My name is Rich. I love this file, I've been an avid reader for some 15 years now. It's a lot of fun reading comments from other SF buffs. I just read the Gondalara cycle 1 and cycle 2 books written by Randall Garrett and Vicki Anne Heydron. I enjoyed them very much, probably because I would love the mind link between man and cat immensely. Unfortunately the books left an unfinished story. Vicky Heydron was to complete the story with the book labled "THE RIVER WALL". If she did, the book store I go to (ACTON BOOKS) didn't show it listed under either Heydron, or Garret. Has anyone out there read the book?, Know where I can get a copy of it?, or willing to lend it to me? I hate it when I can't finish a series. :^( Help me Please? Rich

Yes it was originally published in June 1986. It seems to still be readily available in bookshops down here in New Zealand, so hunt around. I think this is one of the better series written this decade and would rank it along with McCaffery's dragon series and Eddings Belgariad and Mallorian series. I must admit the mind link with the cats fascinates me as I am a cat lover. I hope you manage to find a copy, it really rounds the series off nicely.

According to my copy, The River Wall was published (in paperback) by Bantam in 1986. I recommend it as well. According to the "About the Authors" section of the book, Vicki Ann Heydron and Randall Garrett only completed a draft of The Steel of Raithskar (1st book of Cycle 1) before Garrett suffered "serious and permanent injury". Heydron completed the works on her own, from their outline. Does anybody know more? Ian S.

I finally found the last book in the series "THE RIVER WALL". I think that Heydron did an excellent job finishing the story. It was rewarding getting to the end of the story which was very imaginative and introspective. Quite possibly a believable begining of man on the planet Earth. Rich |
