According to their flier, it is "New England's newest science fiction
convention."
Events - movie program, masquerade, huckster's room, art show, amateur
video contest, video program, ice-breaker for preregistered members,
gaming, and panels covering a wide range of interests.

| I thought it had kind of sprung on the scene due to the problems
with Boskone lately....they were concurrently scheduled with 1990's
Boskone until recently when they realized NESFA probably wouldn't
buy in to two cons at once.
So maybe it's trying to be "Boskone like it was". Just my guess.

764.6 | more info - on the Lafayette | LYRIC::BOBBITT | there's heat beneath your winter | Thu Feb 22 1990 10:06 | 62 |
| More info from Frances ([email protected])
Subj: ARISIA
I recently found out that some people think we don't have rooms available.
This is not the case. There are still rooms available, in the first atrium,
with the con suite and the pool (which, btw, they have agreed to keep open to
11:00 PM)
The Lafayette:
The Lafayette is a posh but obscure hotel, situated above the
Lafayette Place mall (That circular mall next to Jordan Marsh). It has
beautiful convention space, all on one floor, a smimming pool, health
club, and (best of all) these neat triangular "atria" that rooms are
clustered around. It should be great. Each three floors of rooms in
the atria share a common center - it will be like a little village!
Convention space is handicapped accessable; the pool is handicapped
accessible with the slight hassle of going through staff.
Rooms: $119 for single or double. Suites, non-smoking and handicapped
accessible rooms available.
Directions to the Lafayette:
By T - Take the Red Line or Orange Line to Downtown Crossings
(Formerly Washington and Summer & Winter) Walk past Jordan Marsh and away
from Filene's. You are now in front of Lafayette Place. Go into the mall
and up two flights of escalators. You are now in the hotel!
By car: (In Boston? You maybe big time crazy, a?)
From the Airport - Exit from the airport, following signs for
the Sumner Tunner ($0.60 toll). Follow signs to 93 South.
From 93 South - Take exit 22 (South Station). Take the first
right onto Summer Street. Bear left at the fork onto Bedford Street.
Bedford Street dead-ends at the entrance to the Lafayette Place
parking garage.
From 93 North - Take exit 21 (Downtown/Chinatown). At the end
of the exit ramp, go straight through the lights onto Lincoln Street.
Turn left at the second light, onto Bedford Street. Bedford Street
dead-ends at the entrance to the Lafayette Place parking garage.
From 90 (Mass. Turnpike) East - Take the turnpike into Boston
to the last exit (Downtown/South Station). At the light, turn left onto
Kneeland Street. At the first light, turn right onto Lincoln Street.
Turn left at the second light, onto Bedford Street. Bedford Street
dead-ends at the entrance to the Lafayette Place parking garage.
Parking: We have made a special deal with the parking garage.
If you want to take your car in and out, get parking validation at the
hotel registration desk at the usual rate ($10/day). If you just want to
leave it parked for the weekend, get your parking validation at
CONVENTION registration, and park all weekend for $6/day.
