701.1 | WINGMAN SERIES | AIMHI::GIARAMITA | | Mon Oct 03 1988 16:51 | 6 |
| I havn't tried it yet but it sounds similar to the
Wingman series by Mack Maloney, Zebra Books. Same theme,
America and the world coming out of the ash to rebuild. The hero
is a fighter pilot filled with super skills and has the last F15
left. These are pretty well writen for a series. Good action.
Not true science fiction.

| There are scads of these series out -- referred to by collectors
as "survivalist series" after the Jerry Ahern's The Survivalist
series, which is the first of the wave.

I didn't know that Wingman was a series when I picked it up,
are the others as good as the 1st?
I know that these arn't SF but you always see sf/adventure in
the book stores so I figured you wouldn't mind. :-)
re .02
I havn't read any of the survivalist series; are they any good?
I'v noticed more books that merge, I think, both SF and Adv. in
one story.
Footfall (Aliens invade Earth, people fight to survive)
Lucifers(sp) Hammer (comet from space hits Earth) ????
Swan Song (WW III, magic crown to fight evil with)
What do you call a book that has parts of both?

| As far as I'm concerned, they're all post-holocaust science
fiction. Just because it's written from a military/adventure
point of view doesn't change that.
I haven't read any of Ahern's "Survivalist" series, but friends
that have think it's pretty good.

Just finished the 2nd Wingman book, not as good as the 1st,
but not bad. Also the Wingman has a F16 not F15.
