688.0. "Bimbos of the Death Sun!" by SNDCSL::SMITH (IEEE-696) Wed Sep 07 1988 15:28

    I'm trying (really I am, if everyone would just leave me alone for 45
    minutes.... That might happen around next month sometime...) to
    finish up "Bimbos Of The Death Sun" by Sharyn McCrumb [let me guess,
    is this a pen name? :+) ], and really like it! Of course, I got
    it at Nolacon last weekend, so that may have had something to do
    with it, but if you ever get the chance, check this one out, it's
    a laugh per page at least!

    re: .-1

    Is this another "Star Smashers of the Galaxy Rangers"?

    "Star Smashers" is a parody of Doc Smith-type pulp SF (look, don't
    get me wrong, I loved "The Lensman Series", okay?) that made me
    laugh so hard I almost fell out of my chair...

    The story is about an author's first trip to a con, after writing
    a hard sf book that the publishers changed the title to ...

    "Bimbos of the Death Sun".

    It's actually a murder mystery, set at a con.

I borrowed this book months ago (I swear I'll return it Brad) and finally
started reading it. I love it. I've never been to a con but I suspect there is
a fair amount of truth in the humor. This is a fun read. liesl
