| Incidentally, for anyone who has the same problem, or hasn't
"subscribed" to OR through USENET yet, the electronic version
can be obtained from Chuq Von Rospach by sending him a message
at DECWRL::"[email protected]".
Or, you might ask Chuq for info on how to subscribe to the hardcopy
version of OtherRealms. Well worth the price, imho. For instance,
#21 is a special Brad Foster art issue, and Brad's artwork alone
makes the $2.85 price a bargain.
In either case, tell Chuq Fred sent you. :-)

anyway. There's no firm date on when it will be -- although probably
soon.

| Actually, it *is* out. I received my electronic copy (I get it
direct, rather than by reading the moderated newsgroup) last
week. The hardcopies should be appearing soon, I'd think.

Possibly arrangements could be made for other USENET

Due to circumstances beyond my control, the Summer issue of OtherRealms (due
out the end of this month) is going to be delayed. This notice is to warn
readers (and hopefully reduce the onslaught of "where is OtherRealms?"
messages on the net) of this. The current plan is to combine the Summer and
Fall issues into a single, double-sized issue and publish it on schedule
towards the end of October.
My apologies for this delay. With any luck, things will be back on schedule
with the Summer/Fall issue and stay that way.
If you have any questions, please contact me.

Welcome to rec.mag.otherrealms. This message is a regular posting
that attempts to answer the most common questions asked about this
newsgroup. If you have further questions, please send them to
"[email protected]" and I'll do my best to answer them.
What is rec.mag.otherrealms: r.m.o is set up as a moderated
newsgroup, but it is different from other newsgroups on USENET. It is
not, strictly speaking, a moderated group. Instead it is a
distribution method for an electronic magazine called OtherRealms.
This is why r.m.o is empty most of the time: because OtherRealms is
published quarterly it expires long before the next issue is published
and there is rarely any message traffic between issues. It is not
because nothing is happening, but because the information is delivered
in a much different form than most of USENET.
What is OtherRealms: OtherRealms is fanzine about Science Fiction,
Fantasy and Horror. It's primary focus is reviews of books in these
genres as well as discussions relating to books. A 'fanzine' is a term
from Science Fiction fandom for an amateur publication. The purpose of
OtherRealms is to help people better understand the Science Fiction
field and the people in it and be able to find the books to read that
they will enjoy. OtherRealms is a nominee in two categories for the
1989 World Science Fiction Achievement Award (known at the Hugo): Best
Fanzine and Best Fan Writer (Chuq Von Rospach). There is no cost to
reading OtherRealms on USENET: my only request is that you abide by
the copyrights on the material.
Who does this: OtherRealms is edited by Chuq Von Rospach. All mail
about OtherRealms should be sent to "[email protected]". OtherRealms is,
however, a collaborative effort of many people -- including everyone
who reads it and helps me make it a better publication with
submissions, feedback and suggestions.
Back issues: Lots of people write me asking for back issues. At
this time, the only back issue available electronically is issue #24,
the current issue. I don't expect this to change any time soon,
unfortunately.
Non-electronic back issues: I no longer have back issues of
OtherRealms. All of my back issues prior to issue #24 were donated to
TAFF, the Trans-Atlantic Fan Fund to help with their fundraising (this
is a fund that sends someone active in fandom to an international
convention every year). You can help TAFF by buying OtherRealms back
issues (or the infamous "Sri Lanka in 2001 T-shirts, some of which
were donated to TAFF as well). To do so, contact the TAFF
Administrator, Robert Lichtman, at P.O. Box 30, Glen Ellen, CA 95442
and ask about them.
Printed OtherRealms: Subscriptions to the printed version of
OtherRealms are $2.85 for a single copy or $11 for four issues (one
year) to Chuq von rospach, 35111-F Newark Blvd. Suite 255, Newark, CA
94560.
The next issue: The next issue of OtherRealms is scheduled to be
released the last week of October.
If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please feel
free to contact me.
