Help... I just remembered a book I once owned, and loaned (like a fool) to someone I'll never see again. I'm sure it's out of print, but I'd like to find it again if I could. (I had it in paperback.) The problem is I can't remember the title or author! I THINK it had a title from Celtic myth or prose, and I THINK it was something to do with death. (That's the topic of the book.) The story is about a man who dies, and all the experiences he passes through in death. It's the only sf book I've ever read that had a detailled bibliography at the end which listed non-fiction source material. It told, as a story (which, by the way, was ok but not spectacular) about the various theories of the after-life and tied many of them together into one "reality". I thought it was very interesting. Kind of a philosophy/fiction/religion/who-knows kind of piece. Any hope anyone out there recognizes this title? My guess is that it was published in the mid-to-late 70's. I'm pretty sure he cited Kubler-Ross, for example. Thanks for brainstorming this on for me! Sherry

When the title of this book is found, would you please change the title of this Topic (use the command SET NOTE/TITLE="title") so that those in the future who are looking for this book to discuss using the command DIR/TITLE=topicname can find it - unless of course the book already exists somewhere in SF. There is a rule about giving Topics identifiable titles in here. Thanks. Larry

Not sure if this is the one you mean, but could it be - Brian Bates - The Way of Wyrd it's not so much Celtic, more Druid, and I'm not sure if he dies or whether he's entranced/drugged. It definitely had an extensive bibliography, and was very detailed about life in those times. Unfortunately it's in a loft in Glasgow at the moment so I can't give more detail, but I enjoyed it. It sounds to me more like Richard Matheson's "What Dreams May Come." Somewhere in that book, either on the back cover, or in a foreward or after- word, there definitely was a reference to Kubler-Ross. Does this fellow's wife commit suicide later in the book, and does he travel down into "dark, slow, thick regions" to try to save her soul? And he decides to stay there with her because his "heaven" would be no heaven without her? And by deciding to stay, he imparts enough karma to her spirit to kick it back up into the reincarnation spiral? If so, that's "What Dreams May Come." ----- Shawn
