| This sounds somewhat like the 1963 novel, THE WANTING SEED,
whch dealt with overpopulation and a blight which wiped out most
of the world's food sources.
Is this movie based on this book?

Two completely different books. As said in .0, the film NO
BLADE OF GRASS was based on the book of the same title (which
was originally titled THE DEATH OF GRASS) by John Christopher.
THE WANTING SEED was written by Anthony Burgess (author of A
CLOCKWORK ORANGE).
re:.0
John Christopher (real name: Christopher Youd) is most well-
known for two young-adult trilogies:
THE PRINCE IN WAITING THE WHITE MOUNTAINS
BEYOND THE BURNING LANDS THE CITY OF GOLD AND LEAD
THE SWORD OF THE SPIRITS THE POOL OF FIRE
Both of these trilogies are almost perpetually in print. The
first two books of the latter trilogy have been adapted as
British mini-series under the title THE TRIPODS.
Other sf books of his, which, alas, are mostly out of print
at the moment, are:
THE TWENTY-SECOND CENTURY [collection]
THE YEAR OF THE COMET [aka PLANET IN PERIL]
THE LONG WINTER [aka THE WORLD IN WINTER]
THE POSSESSORS
SWEENEY'S ISLAND [aka CLOUD ON SILVER]
A WRINKLE IN THE SKIN [aka THE RAGGED EDGE]
THE LITTLE PEOPLE
PENDULUM
THE LOTUS CAVES
THE GUARDIANS
DOM AND VA
WILD JACK
EMPTY WORLD
I know I'm missing a couple of fairly recent juveniles, but
what the hey.

| A small point of interest: _No Blade of Grass_ was serialized in
the old _Saturday Evening Post_. Not many science-fiction novels
can make that claim.

As far as I know.
re:.4
Well, if you only count *novels*, yes, you're right. But there
have been a substantial number of sf/fantasy short stories in
SEP, not a few by Heinlein.
