463.0. "Castledown completed" by CGHUB::CONNELLY (Eye Dr3 - Regnad Kcin) Tue Apr 07 1987 00:18

"The Great Wheel", the third book in Joyce Ballou Gregorian's
"Castledown" trilogy is out in paperback (Ace) at last! (More
reaction after I finish it!)

What is the "Castledown" trilogy about, and what are the other two
    titles?

They are fantasy/alternate world books. The other title are...
um... The Broken Citadel and er... um... Castledown ... ? (As you
can tell they had to be dragged from the depths of my brain.)

I enjoyed the first two and had almost given up hope of a third
book. I've been keeping my eye out but haven't seen it yet.

I may have to read the whole trilogy over to (re)capture the flavor
of it again. But it does seem like there *could* be another book
in there somewhere (so you may have to scratch that "completed"!).

The emotional range that is covered in these books is surprisingly
broad, from the fairy-tale whimsical at one extreme to the real-life
tragic at the other. The plot element is somewhat compromised (to
my way of thinking) by the emphasis on foreshadowing/predestination
and the intervention of various divine beings/forces, but the
characters definitely grow on you.

Some vague resemblance to "The Once and Future King", maybe?
