I don't like writing "does anyone know this book?" notes, but - there is a book, a collection of stories, that I bought in 1977 and have somehow misplaced. The first story was titled (I think) "The Knot in the Bear's Tail". The stories are about a ship full of scientists/explorers and some of their experiences. The narrator was built like a gorilla; his lady was built like a brick outhouse, and the third member of this trilogy was a guy who'd had an arm bitten off once .... and there was this seventyish, Grace_Hopperish artist who painted what she somewhat psychically perceived. In the first story this included a painting of the constellations drawn as the characters that classical Astronomy populated the skies with - Ursa Minor was a playful cub, but Ursa Major was emaciated and pain-ridden, with a hellish kink in his tale. So, could somebody tell me the real name of the collection, and the name of the author? Thanx, Susan

re. .0: Donald A. Wollheim (ed) "Best Science Fiction of 1977" is where my copy of "A Bear with a Knot in its Tail" resides. Or is it 1972? In any case, an _excellent_ read! kevin |
