Hello all, A few years years ago, I read two short stories from an author named Adrian Cole. ( Being Dutch speaking, I read them in translation ). Original titles were : Astral Stray (Published in Heroic Fantasy 1979) and The Universe Of Islands (from Airgedlamh 1980) The main character of these stories is an enigmatic figure, known as The Voidal. It is said of him that he was once a God or demi-god who was was stripped of his personality and memories by the "Dark Gods" as punishment for a terrible crime. These same Gods now use him as a slave and executioner throughout the different worlds of Cole's multiverse. I found these stories extremely well written. (Even after translation). Cole creates an atmosphere which is very gripping, and I have reread the stories several times, just for the pleasure of being immersed into his fascinating universe. Since then, I 've been looking around for more of this author, but the choice of English books is limited here, and nothing has appeared in translation. Does anyone know if any novels have been published by this author ? If so, could you put the full reference (title, publisher and publishing date) in reply to this note. Cole had three novels published about 10 years ago from a
relatively small paperback house, Zebra Books. The novels
have been out of print since then, so I doubt they can be
ordered. For the record, the titles were:
A PLAGUE OF NIGHTMARES
LORD OF NIGHTMARES
BANE OF NIGHTMARES
They were listed as being in the Dream Lords Series. I have them,
but I never got around to reading them.
There are a number of other Voidal stories floating around. I'll
see if I can whip up a bibliography soon.

I had forgotten all about this note until just the other day.
I'll try to get that Voidal bibliography done. In the meantime,
here's some news you might like. I just got the most recent issue
of a small press fantasy magazine, FANTASY TALES (#15, Winter '86)
which has a Voidal story in it. In the afterword, it mentions:
(1) Starblaze Books had planned a few years back to publish three
collections of the Voidal stories, but the plans fell through (I
recall seeing this mentioned back when, but had forgotten about
it). Still, Cole is trying to get another publisher interested.
(2) Cole had two juvenile fantasy novels published in England in
1982-83, MOORSTONES and THE SLEEP OF GIANTS (from Spindlewood
Press).
(3) He has a novel coming out in England this Spring from Allen
and Unwin, A PLACE AMONG THE FALLEN, with a sequel, THRONE OF
FOOLS, to come.
Incidentally, the Voidal story in this magazine was originally
published in Dutch in HEXA 6 in 1981.

The forthcoming novel I mentioned, A PLACE AMONG THE FALLEN
is listed as a May title from Arbor House here in the States,
which means it should be out sometime this month.
