Any word on what Star Trek IV will be about ? Speculation ?
So we can All look foolish when it comes out.
Here's my $.02 . They go home on the Romulan Bird of Prey,
Communication{breaks down and the star base thinks they are Romulans.
The Exelsior is dispatched to deal w{th the menace. Kirk tries
dimplomacy for 5 nano-seconds or so, and gets half his weaponry
destroyed. He then uses some hidden federali 'captain' trick to
blow the exelsior out of the sky.
Alternate scenario. They trick the Exelsior captain, board{the ship.
Now they are really renegades, since they are still wanted for grand
theft starship. They then scourge the galaxy{fighting evil forces
where they may find them. Of course the ship is renamed Enterprise.

And if you *really* really want to know, I'll dig out a posting
from SF-Lovers that explains the whole plot. The person who
posted this is a member of the Star Trek Welcommittie who had a
copy of the revised shooting script fall into her lap. Actually,
now that I think of it, I should post it to THEBAY::STAR_TREK.
Basicly, on their way back to Earth in the *Klingon* (note: not
Romulan) Bird of Prey to face charges, Our Heroes find it necessary
to go back in time to present day Earth to get something that "no
longer exists" by the 23rd Century.
