372.0. "Kurtz:Deryni Archives" by SHOGUN::HEFFEL (Tracey Heffelfinger) Fri Aug 15 1986 14:38

Just thought I'd let fellow Kurtz enthusiasts know that she
    has a new book out.

The Deryni Archives is a collection of short stories. Some have
been previously published, some not. I had only read one of the
them before. The stories are from right before the camber trilogy,
throughout the years of persecution. They range from the story
of how Rhys found he was a healer to how Bishop Denis Arilan became
the first Deryni priest to be ordained in over 200 years. Inclused
are Kurtz's comments about her stories, and the original statements
that she wrote down upon waking from the dream that inspired the
first trilogy, the novelette that that became, the precis for the
first trilogy and the outline for the first book that she used to
sell the first trilogy. I found it VERY interesting to see how
the story changed and matured as she went along. If you think she
matured between the writing of the first and second trilogies, you
should see how far she came to get to the fist trilogy.

I knew this was coming out this month but almost missed it cause
I was looking for a hardback. It is in paper back. Kutz fans will
find it a must. If you have not read Kutrz's books, DO NOT read
this first. You will enjoy the stories more if you've read her
stuff and her intros contain spoilers to her novels.

In case you haven't heard yet, The Search for Saint Camber will
out of December. Also in her comments in the Deryni Archives, she
mentions the *3* future trilogies that are planned. (Now if she
could just write faster! I have severe withdrawal symptoms by the
time my yearly fix comes around.)

Guess I'll have to trudge out to the bookstore, sounds like a good
    book!!

Now don't rush Ms Kurtz too much! I'd like more frequent books
too, but I'd prefer the quality she puts out, rather than the mass
    production of "some authors" lately...
372.2Codex DeryniumCOOKIE::WITHERSReality is for those who can't cope with Science FictionMon Aug 18 1986 16:0011
According to the local bookstore where I bought the Deryni Archives,
"forthcomming books" (the publisher's equivalent of Books-in-print)
doesn't list _The Search for Saint Camber_, but does list something
called _Codex Derynium_ (or similar...its been a while) that's due
out in paperback on October. The blurb said that it was a collection
    of stories and poetry!

    Ms. Kurtz has/will be busy!

I hadn't heard about the "Codex Derynium". Goody-goody!

I head about Camber from the same source that said that Deryni
Archives would be out in August. I believe it was an issue of LOCUS
from about 3 months ago. I guess I'll have to dig it out.

  [email protected]

Deryni is an unmoderated list for the discussion of the works of
fantasy author Katherine Kurtz. While discussion will most certainly
center around the works set in her Deryni universe, the list is open
to all of Ms. Kurtz' novels and short stories.
