Is there anyone out there who has read _Huysman's Pets_, by Kate Wilhelm, and would care to comment on it? I just borrowed it from the library, but am unsure whether or not to invest the time to read it. Thanks. -- Roger

I haven't read that particular book yet, but I haven't read a Wilhelm book yet that I haven't liked. --- jerry | |||||

I finished _Huysman's Pets_ the night before last. I'll rate it a +1 on the -4 to +4 scale. I found it difficult to maintain my willing suspension of disbelief through the many coincidences in the book. It only rates a +1 because some of the characterizations -- particularly that of the protagonist's 13 year-old daughter -- are right on target. ** SPOILER WARNING ** SPOILER WARNING ** SPOILER WARNING ** SPOILER WARNING ** This is one of those books about which you say to yourself as you're reading it, "The coincidences are just too tremendous to be believed!" Then you get to the end, only to find that NOTHING was coincidental after all. I call this an sf-ish excuse for poor plotting. -- Roger |
