| Hi,
Mr. Moderator here.. As much as I try not to interfere in
this conference (It's one of my favourites too), I have to
say something here..
If I'm not mistaken, this whole HHGttN series is available
somewhere on the Easynet and has been for some time. Wouldn't
it be easier to just leave a pointer to that rather than duplicating
it here? After all, disk space on the ICO cluster is not
infinate. I'd appreciate it if people would remember that..
This conference is already up to 9200 blocks..
(I hope I'm not sounding like a hardass or anything.. That's
not my intention..)
Thanks for your time (and all the fish) and I will now
return control of your set to you.

says HGTTN is still somewhere out there, does anyone know exactly
WHERE it is? An answer would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

BUTTON PROGRAM, BUTTON PROGRAM, WHO'S GOT THE BUTTON PROGRAM?
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
From: OLORIN::MITTON "Dave Mitton"
To: BOOKIE::NEILSEN
Subj: More button quotes than you could ever need. Now in program form!
Spurred on by the most recent issue of Desperado, I thought I'd send
in a copy of a program that prints out sayings once every time you run it.
This is generally know in Arpanet circles as a Cookie program, as in the
sayings you get from Chinese fortune cookies. This is the kind of program
to run in your LOGIN file.
Well after much suggesting from me, Cathy Bence had the fortitude to type
in most of Nancy Lebowitz's huge button catalogue. She made it into a
simple text array in the program. The more technically inclined, do this
with a data file, but what the heck.
I should explain a little about the Button Catalog, Nancy sells buttons
and Science Fiction conventions. The material is drawn from the suggestions
of the people (she makes custom buttons to order) and often some buttons
lead to others. The subject matter is drawn from SF, Fantasy, D&D, Gaming,
Films, and other obvious misc subjects.
The programs are in
{OLORIN/BEORN/BERGIL}::MSDOS_PROJ:[MSDOSNET.PUBLIC]BUTTON.*

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM, DON'T ASK ME,
I only work here.
BERGIL::MITTON's original message included hundreds of lines of C program,
and I duly extracted it, edited out a few of the dozens of typos (sorry,
Cathy, I calls 'em as I sees 'em), compiled it and ran it. And ran it,
and ran it, and ran it again. Addictive as M&Ms, it is. Here's a random
sampling, featuring my favorites from the four-part Hitchhiker trilogy,
the only science fiction I've ever read and enjoyed. (Take that discussion
to Science Fiction Lovers!)
"Don't sweat it, it's only ones and zeros.",
"Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie!' till you can find a rock.",
"All snakes that wish to remain in Ireland, please raise their right hands.
Saint Patrick",
"An aptly thrown cup and saucer is cheaper than any other form of therapy.",
"I don't know. I'm making this up as I go along.",
"Rugby players eat their dead.",
"One Company, One Egg, One Basket",
"It is easier to apologize than to get permission. G. Hopper",
"GOOD, FAST, CHEAP - pick any two.",
"Ask a silly person, get a silly answer.",
"Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!",
"Better dead than mellow.",
"Entropy isn't what it used to be.",
"He's dead, Jim.",
"If we were meant to fly, we wouldn't keep losing our luggage.",
"I'm sorry, my karma ran over your dogma.",
"It's you and me against the world - when do we attack?",
"I've enjoyed about as much of this as I can stand.",
"Let's split up - we can do more damage that way.",
"One day I shall burst my bud of calm and blossom forth into hysteria.",
"So many books, so little time.",
"Spending a year dead for tax purposes.",
"Sushido - the way of the tuna.",
"This is no ordinary fool you're dealing with.",
"This must be morning. I never could get the hang of mornings.",
