Whilst viewing The Terminator on HBO a while back, I noticed that in the end credits was a line like "With Acknowledgement to the Works of Harlan Ellison". I didn't see this when I saw the film in theatrical release. Did Harlan have something to do with the story/script/film in general? If so, why wasn't his credit there before? Wondering, Dave Wall

I believe _Terminator_ has a lot in common with an episode Harlan Ellison wrote for _Twilight Zone_. Probably, when the movie was released to theatres, he complained. Even if there was no intentional plagiarism, it is very likely his episode affected the writers. The acknowledgement must be part of the settlement, although I am not aware of the details. -- edp

Yes, Ellison sued the producers of THE TERMINATOR, claiming that the movie derived most of its ideas from his two OUTER LIMITS teleplays, "Demon With a Glass Hand" and "Soldier". The non-monetary part of the settlement was the credit that was added to prints of the film and to the videotape. --- jerry
