As someone who's not much into elves (see my "Murphy" for my comment on
elves), it makes little difference; however: the _Star Trek_ people were
supposed to have "complete control" over the TV cartoon project, and yet
the results were hardly what everyone really wanted.
Harlan Ellison, whom I have mixed feelings for, broke a TV executive's jaw
for his (the execs) attitude. Nonwithstanding Harlan's Act of Principle,
most television execs' attitudes haven't changed significantly.

What everyone really wanted in that case was the actual live-action show
back. I know very few people who were greatly disappointed in the STAR TREK
cartoon show. While the animation wasn't anything to cheer about, the scripts
were generally as well-written as those of the original show, taking into
account the limitation that the cartoon show was marketed towards a younger
audience. At any rate, Roddenberry and company were sufficiently pleased
with the cartoon show that it is considered a valid part of the canon.
(And the whole run of episodes was worth suffering through if only to see
Spock in the role of a Pierson's Puppeteer.)

| Well, frankly, I think that the Pini ElfQuest series could be implemented
as a Saturday Morning cartoon without suffering any noticeable loss of
"quality".
Still, it could be a good movie, especially if done by someone who could
do Wndy's work justice, you know, Dino De Laurentiis.
Let's cast the elves... Bo Derek, Tahnee Welch, Brigitte Neilsen, Sandahl
Bergmann....

If anyone cares (doubtful), the project is in limbo for now. Not
enough executive interest, not enough support, not enough people
conforming to the Pini's standards.
And, looking at the shape that animation in the United States is
in, that decision was for the best.
