About 3 weeks ago I attended the Atlanta Fantasy Fair. One of the guests was Fred Pohl. I attended his talk and thought I'd pass along a gem to you. He was talking about the distrubing trend to take an idea that would make a good novel and stretch it to a trilogy.<scattered applause> He then said "Of course some might take my critism with a bit of skepticism since I'm the author of the Gateway/Beyond the Blue Event Horizon/Heechee Rendezvous Trilogy..."<lots of laughter>"I've decided what to do about that... I'm writing a fourth book."<lots of applause> Then he went on to read a short section from "Little Lost Heechee". (don't know if that title is going to stick). Fred was delightful to listen to. He's a funny and fascinating gentleman. I'm glad he was at my first SF/Fantasy convention. It's makes it more likely that I'll go to another. tlh

Book #4 of the Heechee trilogy 8^) is now available from the SFBC. The title is The Annals of the Heechee (or Heechee Annals - you get the idea). The premise is that the Heechee and the humans join together to stand watch over the kugleblitz (sp?) where the Destroyers are supposedly hibernating, and guess what..yep you guessed it! They wake up, and only the dead Robinette Broadhead can save the universe. Well I've placed my order... -Steve |
