| The other is titled LOGAN'S WORLD, and it's actually the second in the series;
LOGAN'S SEARCH is the third. As to where it can be found, you got me. You'll
just have to look around the various used-book stores. By the way, both WORLD
and SEARCH are by William F. Nolan alone, rather than by Nolan and George
Clayton Johnson.

233.2 | TV series not too bad | HOCUS::LAM | | Thu Mar 28 1991 10:45 | 11 |
| I never saw this program when it was aired on prime time TV, I forget
when that was. But I finally saw it for the first time on the cable TV
network TNT. Apparently it's not bad, it's not the best sci-fi TV I've
ever seen but some of the episode have thoughtful and reasonably good
plots. I especially liked the android. It takes a lot of liberties
from the movie but the basic premise remains the same. I kind of
reminds me of a TV series that Gene Roddenberry tried to get on the air
but never made it. I believed it was called "Genesis II" or something
similar but I'm not sure.

233.3 | name of the old man? | GIDDAY::BURT | Chele Burt - CSC Sydney, DTN 7355693 | Mon Oct 26 1992 19:30 | 7 |
| Greetings,
I have a small question which has been bothering me for days. I don't have a
copy of the book LOGAN'S RUN & it's been years since I saw the movie.
What was the name of the "old man" (played by Peter Ustinov in the
movie)? Did he actually have a name? or was he merely called "old man"?

I'll have to dig out my copy of LR to be sure, however, the book
and the movie differ so much that I'm not even sure there was an
old man in the book.
Anyway, I think it was just "old man". If I remember correctly,
he had forgotten his name due to the combined effects of isolation
and old age.

| In the 1967 novel, the "old man" was actually Logan's Sandman
friend Francis, who was in his 40s and therefore the oldest known
person in the world. In the 1976 film, the old man and Franics were
two different people.
I found the novel to be far superior to the film, not to mention
the short-lived television series which spun off it on CBS. The second
novel was okay and the third was unnecessary.

233.6 | Wasn't it Ballard? | WOOK::LEE | Wook... Like 'Book' with a 'W' | Mon Jan 11 1993 17:35 | 4 |
| That's the name I remember from the book. There was also a Logan's Run graphic
novel that was very faithful to the book.
