164.0. "Xanth" by EARTH::MJOHNSON () Wed Jan 02 1985 19:19

Well, there's a new Xanth novel out by Piers Anthony. It's called

			THE CREWEL LYE

I've just picked it up. If the title is anything to go by, it should be
the puniest one yet!

But you left out the subtitle!
      Crewel Lye
    A Caustic Yarn

And it goes down hill from there. all you people who love to hate puns will
like this one. I thouroughly enjoyed it. (I got mine the week before Christ-
mas and read it in pretty much one sitting. )

In the afterword, Anthony says that he is already working on the next one.
I can't remember the title but it'll be about Grundy the Golem and how he finds
true love.

I haven't seen the book yet - what's the general topic?

Jordan is a ghost in Castle Roogna who observes Ivy, Irene and Dor's
little girl, watching his past life play on the moving tapestry in the castle.
He then gives a narrative that leads up to his death. His talent is the
ability to heal from any injury as long as a decent portion of his body is
present to regenerate from. His whole story is full of "cruel lies."
I also enjoyed the book but not as much as the previous ones, I did
enjoy the new talents, though.

I'm just finishing the 3rd book (Castle Roogna), and would like to
know how many more Xanth books there are, and in what order they should be
read....	Dr. Lobotomy

5 more books!

Next are: Centaur Aisle (I haven't read this one and have been told I'm lucky),
Ogre, Ogre, Night Mare, Dragon on a Pedestal, and of course, Crewel Lye (a
caustic yarn).

The books are pretty even, and the plots, alas, predictable. They're still
good reading! I think that Crewel Lye has more evenly scattered puns as
apposed to big pockets of them in some of the others.

(Hopefully you've read A Spell for Chameleon, and The Source of Magic, since
they come before Castle Roogna.)

The entire list (in a less confusing manner is:

		 A SPELL FOR CHAMELEON
		 THE SOURCE OF MAGIC
		 CASTLE ROOGNA
 		 CENTAUR AISLE
		 OGRE,OGRE
		 NIGHTMARE
		 DRAGON ON A PEDASTEL
A CREWL LYE (oh spare me!)

And I think this file needs a huge dose of PUNICILLIN
