I think I've seen something like here before...
Traditionally there has been SF with computers as characters
Moon is Harsh Mistress (Robert Heinlein)
Time Enough for Love (Robert Heinlein)
When Harlie Was One (David Gerold)
Adolescence of P1 (Alan Ryan?)
Recently Hackers and there terminology has been appearing
and I thought I'd add to that list
True Names by (Vernor Vinge) - Hugo Nominee
Several stories in ANALOG by Joseph Delaney and Marc Stiegler
Soon to be published as a novel VALETINA: Soul in Sapphire
Press Enter (a Novella by John Varley) - Asimov's SF Magazine - May 1984
I find these stories fun, and there portrayals of hackers accurate in
many cases and even scary.
I recommend all of the above and ANYTHING by Marc Stiegler he is new
writer ANALOG has bought most if not all his stories. I think he's
Physicist and a programmer and he hangs around with lawyers. This makes
for some very interesting material. (end of ad)
