Myself and two others at the Digital plant in Ayr, Scotland,
have been pool training with a local club (Irvine) for a number
of months now.
Our dry suits arrived yesterday, and after we get the valves
fitted, and a test in the pool, we should hopefully go on our
first dive trip (west coast of Scotland) next weekend.
All of us are looking forward to it very much. Will keep you
posted of how we all get on.
Cheers,
Trevor.

Well, we finally got out this Sunday for our first dive! We
launched two boats (there was nine of us) from Largs slip, and
headed over to Rothesay Bay. The weather was quite rough, so
the journey over was exhilarating! (the journey back was worse
- 10ft waves!!).
We arrrived at our first dive site (for the qualified divers),
a mile or so from the coast (which was quite calm). The depth
here was about 28 metres. Four divers went in. After
they surfaced, and were picked up, we moved closer inshore,
to a very calm area of water.
Then it was our turn! We got kitted up, buddy check, signal
check and parked oursleves on edge of the boat. My buddy went
in first, I then gripped my mask and second stage, and rolled
backwards. I was in!
The water was a little cold on the exposed areas on the face at
first (the water temp was 8-9 degrees centigrade). Anyway,
after sorting out my mask (it was a little loose), we dumped
the air from our suites and descended to a flat sandy bed. It
was 3 metres here, and we spent a few minutes getting neutrally
buoyant. We then moved off to deeper water.
Went down to about 7.5 metres. Where we saw lots of crabs and
starfish on the sandy bed, a few shrimp were swimming about too.
Not much for the regular divers, but for us first timers it
was a brilliant site!.
After what seemed about five minutes down (which was in fact
twenty minutes!), my buddy signalled to ascend (I was getting
close to 50bar), and up we went. Got picked up by the boat,
and had some lunch (the hot soup was very welcome). and that
was it - Our first dive. Can't wait for next weekend!
Trevor.
