997.0. "Sybase, PATHWORKS and SMP machine hangs" by VMSNET::N_WILKINSON (16 bit? We don't need no stinkin' 16 bit!) Tue Mar 04 1997 09:48
I'm working with a Sybase escalation on a Intel SMP machine they have running NT
v3.51, PW v4.1b and Sybase. They are doing a SQL "ping" over DECnet and are
getting gpf's and hangs and crashes. They turned on debugging and got the
following. If anyone can make sense of this, I would apprecaite it.

IT normally takes a few PINGS to hang it.
They get into debugger, and run the SQLserver from it.
The first ping always produces the exact same call stack. ( What shows
up on the stack look like addresses from DECnet and/or NT, but
NOT SQLserver.) Then when they resume execution (withing the debugger)
and ping again within 2-3 tries it will hang.
What concerns the Sybase engineers is they don't know WHY it should
be hitting an exception for a simple ping......could it be passing
a bad pointer?
Thanks for your help,
Regards

here is the call stack we get:
First Ping is succesful:

we get this in the debugger (note that i hadn't set any breakpoints yet
just set it to capture exceptions if they were not handled):
