825.0. "POLYCENTER Support for New Versions" by ZEKE::BURTON (Jim Burton, DTN 381-6470) Tue Mar 18 1997 18:32

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We now have a program in place to help end user customers who have a need
for POLYCENTER products that support OpenVMS V7.0-7.1 and Digital UNIX
V4.0a,b. Those who qualify are customers who have or will upgrade their
hardware and operating system(s) prior to the end of April and must have a
new version of a POLYCENTER product in order to continue operating.

CA will be shipping a kit containing a CDROM, temporary license PAK,
installation documents, and licensing terms & conditions to all customers
who qualify. This is open to all Digital POLYCENTER customers whether they
purchased the software outright or obtained it as part of a SI or OMS
project. We strongly urge the CSC's worldwide to participate in this
program as well. Since this is very labor intensive for CA and for me, we
are asking Digital people to do what's right in this situation.

The following products are included in this program:

                                 V/V V/A U/A
----------------------------------------------------
Performance Advisor V2.3 X X
Performance Advisor V3.1 X
Data Collector V2.3 X X
Data Collector V3.1 X
Accounting Chargeback V2.3 X X
Console Manager V1.6 X X X
Scheduler Server V2.2 X X

Here is how the program will work. The customer, Digital Sales rep or
partner should contact me (Jim Burton) immediately and ask to participate in
the program. You can contact me using any of these methods, but PLEASE DO
NOT PLACE A TELEPHONE CALL:

The following information must be included in your message:

                     Customer Contact
                     Company
                     Business Address
                     Country
                     Telephone Number
                     FAX Number (optional)

                     Product Name
                     Operating System they are using
                     VAX or Alpha

CA will ship out a CDROM with the new version code, a timeout license PAK
with an expiration date in early June, installation instructions, and
software licensing terms & conditions. We will start these shipments as
soon as the first CDROMs are produced, hopefully within days. The customer
loads the software and runs with the temporary PAK until they receive their
permanent license key either through their support contract or by purchasing
the new version from Digital. The software on this CDROM is exactly the
same as the new release, so the customer will simply need to install the
permanent license PAK once it is available. There is no charge to the
customer for this program.

Is there some sort of network outage today or is it true that only one account
worldwide needs these new versions now?

I know it takes time. I was just concerned that we may have a network
problem. Usually I recieve well over 100 e-mails and 20-30 phone messages
a day. Yesterday, it dropped to a dozen e-mails and 1-2 phone calls. Maybe
everyone was in shock that we were able to pull off this early shipment of
POLYCENTER products.

I have just been informed by CA that except for the CSC's, this is a
customer only program. Internal Digital people can use the Beta program to
ftp POLYCENTER beta code (see note in this file). The beta trials on
these products were very clean, so the beta code is extremely close to the
final release code. I will be notifying all of the internal requestees
via e-mail this morning.

By the way, the first CDROM/Doc/PAK for POLYCENTER is shipping to Baxter in
Illinois today. It was requested on Wednesday morning at 11am EST. That's
what I call a fast turnaround.

I have heard from the Australian and US CSC's but no other ones. I assume all
the SCS's need the latest POLYCENTER software. Could someone point me to the
right people in the other CSC's?

There are a few corrections to your question. The kits will be manufactured
by CA, not Digital SSB. Refer to note 810.0 for details on how you can get
a kit for internal use. Customers must go directly to CA to get a loaner kit.
Digital can't loan it.

825.9CD Rom for each loan?NNTPD::"[email protected]"richard carter - NSIS UKTue Apr 22 1997 17:1818
Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply.

I have contacted CA in the U.K., who have agreed a loan PAK.
They didn't mention any kits, so I assumed that I could copy the kits from the
net.

Looks like I forgot to ask the right questions !!

I shall contact CA (UK) again and get them to ship the software as well as the
PAK.

Regards,
Richard Carter - NSIS.

825.10CA closes early release programZEKE::BURTONJim Burton, DTN 381-6470Fri May 30 1997 09:248
Ca has now closed this program. The CDROMS for Console Manager and Scheduler
have been shipped and CDROMS for the performance products are scheduled to ship
this week. There is no date yet for shipment of the early release CDROMS
for Watchdog, but we expect that to happen in the July/August timeframe.
Customers who need these new releases, but who did not sign up for the early
release program will have to wait for the product release.
