789.0. "Status of POLYCENTER Path Doctor" by ZEKE::BURTON (Jim Burton, DTN 381-6470) Fri Jan 31 1997 08:11

POLYCENTER Path Doctor will be retired at Digital within the next two
months, but will be available directly from CA should any of your customers
need licenses, etc. This is a very low volume product that only supports
up to Digital UNIX V2.0. There are no plans for future releases.

789.1How important is Path Doctor?ZEKE::BURTONJim Burton, DTN 381-6470Thu Feb 06 1997 10:459
The background on this product is it was sold to CA, but no technical
expertise went with the product. As far as we can see, no one in Digital
or CA knows anything about the code. My feeling is that since operating
system support stopped at Digital UNIX V2.0 and no one is demanding that
it support the current version, then this is just not a very important
product for Digital. If someone thinks otherwise, please let me know. The
phones, e-mail, and notes have been totally dead for Path Doctor.

789.2Patdoctor works with Unix V4ZUR01::FUEGLISTERRoland Fueglister, 760-2498Mon Feb 10 1997 09:0714
RE: .1

/no one is demanding that it supports the current version/

I have Pathdoctor running at two customer sites with Digital Unix V4 and
NetView V4 without any problems. That could be a reason why nobody is
reacting. Pathdoctor has been sold as a added-value application together with
NetView.

The only prerequisite for Pathdoctor running under Unix V4 is the subset
OSFMOTIFxxxxx (Motif V1.1 libraries)

Is it worth us continuing to sell it or should we just refer people to CA?

789.4End of Live, don't sell it anymore!ZUR01::FUEGLISTERRoland Fueglister, 760-2498Fri Feb 14 1997 11:504
As Pathdoctor has reached end of life and it is not officially supported under
Unix V4, we will stop referring and selling it.

    If it is not supported, please don't sell it any more. Some poor soul
    will end up picking up the pieces.....

    The PathFinder component of the clearVISN Router Manager provides
    the same support offered by PathDoctor. Please see SPD 61.32.00.
    Router Manager is offered on Windows NT Intel and Alpha, as well
    as Windows 95 and 3.x. It integrates with POLYCENTER NetView on
    NT.
