783.0. "CA-UNICENTER notefile ?" by BACHUS::DUPLICY (Bruno DUPLICY) Tue Jan 28 1997 15:22

	Hello,

Does anyone know if it exist a specific notefile for the products
		CA-UNICENTER-TNG ???

If that note file does not exist, I think that it should be very useful to
share our experience on these products ?

Can the CA product manager in Digital do the necessary to create it ?

Does anyone have access to CA Compuserve problem and solution database ?

The access of the CA WWW is not very useful. (up to now)

	Regards...

After joining the VARsity Club, and becoming a Club Partner,
members get access to product release information and support.

When you want to register at the CA VARsity ClubHouse
	http://www.cai.com/varsity/joinclub.htm
you are asked to enter a site code.
	For Digital, that is 410633.

There isn't a CA-Unicenter/TNG product conference.

If you think this type of forum would be worthwhile you will need to lobby
the SBU people on the CA Alliance programme team. At corporate level the
focus person is Jack Westermeyer, who is Digitals CA relationship manager.
In Europe you can try asking Frank McGowan.
(There is no CA Unicenter "product" manager as such in Digital).

There is useful inbformation on CA web site (www.cai.com). For VARsity club
access you should use a different access code/password in each territory.

Computer Associates begins full-scale delivery of Unicenter TNG

ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via Individual Inc. -- January 29, 1997--

Revolutionary Enterprise Management Platform Aligns IT

Infrastructure With Key Business Processes

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today began full-scale
distribution of Unicenter TNG (The Next Generation), the company's
ground-breaking enterprise management platform. Unicenter TNG is the first
solution to manage, monitor and control global IT resources -- from the
desktop to the mainframe, from LANs to the Internet -- with a business
process perspective.

Unlike platform- or function-specific point products that manage only a
single resource such as a network or system, Unicenter TNG reaches out to
every IT resource--including networks, systems, applications and
databases--regardless of type or location.

Since May, Unicenter TNG has been in controlled release to selected clients
and strategic partners, many of whom have leveraged Unicenter TNG's
customization capabilities to meet specific business requirements. This has
further expanded the management scope of Unicenter TNG to control
additional business assets and processes throughout the enterprise. Among
the hundreds of clients who have deployed Unicenter TNG are Allegiance
Corporation, Banca Popolare di Novara, Essilor, Landeszentralbank Bayern in
Germany, National Processing Company, Retired Persons Services, Shared
Medical Systems, and Telexis (Fiat Group).

"Never before have the business benefits of computing been so easy to
visualize," said CA Chairman and CEO Charles B. Wang. "With Unicenter TNG,
we are offering customers an entirely new approach to viewing, controlling
and supporting their enterprise computing resources -- a solution that will
reduce their cost of ownership, allow them to maximize service availability
and increase their responsiveness to changing business requirements."

The announcement was widely acclaimed by leading industry analysts. "With
Unicenter TNG, CA has demonstrated that it can deliver practical business
solutions that utilize leading edge technology," said Dr. Paul Mason,
Director of System Infrastructure Software Research, IDC. "Unicenter TNG
has an innovative user interface, but it also has rich management
capabilities and a highly scalable architecture. As a result, Unicenter TNG
has the potential to enable businesses to control the spiraling costs of
managing highly distributed environments."

Unicenter TNG's open and extensible architecture enables the easy
integration of management tools into a coherent, end-to-end management
solution. These tools can include management applications from CA,
strategic Unicenter TNG partners, clients and third parties.

Among the scores of Unicenter TNG technology partners lending support to
today's announcement were Bay Networks, Digital Equipment Corporation,
EMC2, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, Lotus Development Corp., Microsoft, NCR,
Netscape, Novadigm, SAP, Storage Technology, Sun Microsystems, Tandem, UB
Networks, UniKix and Xerox.

Unicenter TNG is the combination of fully integrated solutions built upon a
comprehensive object-oriented framework. It includes the ability to manage
Internet and Intranet resources, Intel-based servers and desktops, and even
non-computing devices such as environmental controls. Its open and scalable
architecture eliminates any inherent limit to its management scope. No
other solution provides such broad, integrated platform and protocol
coverage out-of-the-box.

Advanced technologies such as intelligent agents and a sophisticated
correlation engine "cut through" the huge amount of data generated by
today's intelligent devices and systems -- thereby pinpointing problems and
automatically resolving them without incurring the overhead associated with
other management solutions.

"Gaining and maintaining control over a company's total computing
environment in a powerful, simple and intuitive way is a key to survival
and prosperity in today's global marketplace," said Wang. "Unicenter TNG is
unique because it fundamentally changes the way technical and business
professionals manage their IT resources."

Unicenter TNG also features a compelling 3-D Real World Interface that
enhances the ability of managers to visualize and pinpoint problems in the
IT environment. 3-D object rendering and animation makes it easy to
visualize and immediately grasp even the most complex relationships between
enterprise resources.

Unlike other solutions which often assess the health of IT resources out of
context, Unicenter TNG delivers application-centric management by managing
business applications and services everywhere in the system. Through its
unique Business Process Views and policy-based management, organizations
can monitor business service levels and manage their enterprise
environments on an application-by-application basis-in addition to the more
traditional device-by-device or resource basis. Enterprise-wide policies
can be defined to govern access to IT functions and resources, such as
security, software distribution and Web servers.

Unicenter TNG's multi-tiered architecture allows a combination of
hierarchical and peer-to-peer deployment configurations, offering
unparalleled scalability that applies to all management functions. This is
a critical factor, since the value of a management platform is contingent
upon the effectiveness of the full range of its management tools.

Unicenter TNG's distributed, object-oriented architecture and small
footprint agents allow it to scale down to smaller, departmental
environments. In addition, the integration of recently acquired Cheyenne
technologies like ARCServe and InnocuLAN expand the scope of Unicenter TNG
in the desktop and LAN environments.

"The advent of hands-off enterprise systems-management is a boon to
businesses everywhere," said Peter Kastner, Group Vice President, Aberdeen
Group. "Unicenter TNG sets the standard for controlling today's complex
technology, and extends Computer Associates' lead in this important area of
business management."

Unicenter TNG offers its own SNMP management environment for network
discovery and configuration management. It can also integrate with a broad
set of leading third-party products including SunNet Manager, Cabletron
Spectrum, IBM NetView and HP OpenView.

Unicenter TNG is available for multiple UNIX environments and Windows NT on
Intel and Alpha platforms. Pricing starts at $2,500.

 Gets my vote.

Given the recent announcement ( 2-June-97 ) I think that we need an
internal forum for Unicenter. Technical migration issues are
something I'd like to discuss..
