Hi, One of my customers has requested information on MIB Support in Digital UNIX, OpenVMS and Windows NT and what system component they can manage from Netview. I know all three operating systems support the basic MIB 2 components which detail configuration information and counters for TCP/IP. Digital offers ServerWorks which provides system agents which provide value added management capabilities via TCP/IP and SNMP. Are the MIB definition files for ServerWorks available and has anyone out there loaded these MIB files into NetView to see what kind of value added management you can add to Netview? Also it would be useful to have a listing of MIB management support available for all three operating systems available to share with our customers. Thanks in advance for any help, Hill...

Good question. I sent it to Digital UNIX product management. The D UNIX base os supports mib-2 (rfc1213), host resources MIB (rfc1514), fddi MIB (rfc1285), and tokenring MIB (rfc1231). In the next release (Steel, about to go to IFT), we support the SNMPv2 MIB (rfc 1907). Digital UNIX also supports enterprise-specific MIBs, but I can't tell you officially or exactly what they are. The Performance Manager implements system and performance-related private MIBs. the base os also supports the Alpha Server Management MIB, and one for AdvFS. I believe a cluster-related MIB is on the way... Customers /ISVs provide their own MIB implementations, but we have no way of tracking these. For more information try Eric Schott ([email protected]): product management; Phil Vitale ([email protected]): alpha server management Hugh Teegan ([email protected]): Performance Manager Regards, Mike | |||||

Some others MIBs I forgot, that are done by other Digital groups, are SAP, Reliable Broadcast Server, Multimedia Video Server, SNA. Mike |
