2243.0. "automated database maintenance?" by ZUR01::FUEGLISTER (Roland Fueglister, 760-2498) Tue Apr 29 1997 06:45
Hi,
Since a few weeks I get a bunch of the following messages in the snmpCol.trace
file:
- Changing requested name of "<IPaddress>" to official name "<IPname>"
indicated by name server.
- Changing requested name of "<IPname>" to official name "<IPname>"
indicated by name server.
The NetView version is V4.1B
Obviously, there are a lot of naming changes and NetView doesn't handle it; the
objects are all set to Unmanaged.
I have already done the following to get rid of these repeating messages:
- find the object using the NetView "Locate by Selection Name" feature
- set the object to state "Managed"
- force a demandpoll
- Case 1 (object is reachable):
after NetView has changed the Label set the object to state "Unmanaged"
- Case 2 (object is unreachable and last successful poll is older than the
default node down delete interval of seven days):
NetView deletes the object automatically
TME 10 NetView V4.1C introduced a new feature: netmon DHCP support. But this
feature does not cover the situation described above.
It seems to be that NetView is very unfriendly regarding database maintenance;
there are NO utilities in this area. Are there other ways to automate the above
mentioned manual tasks than writing C Code (using the NetView API's)?
Roland
