Shalom, I have a very strange behavior of the NETVIEW-NT on a site where I have a NATIVE UNIX before. When choosing : monitor-->network-->routing table we get in the destination colon PC NETBIOS NAMES (which are not listed in DNS) as a network names. We didn't succeed to understand how the NATIVE learn these names and why it display them in the destination colon. The customer was used to use the routing tables as they where in the netview unix and see this feature as a big problem. The network is a NT network over LAN and WAN (Star topology). In each Segment there is a DHCP server (running on the NT server). There are 2 WINS servers in the central lan which all the PC clients are register. management station configuration: NT workstation 3.51 service pack 4 on ALPHA. Tcp/Ip + DNS + enable DNS for Windows name resolution. There is no WINS server specified in the tcp/ip configuration. I will appreciate any help or information concerning this problem. regards yael kalai

Shalom Yael, What your customer appears to see as a problem (showing names vs. IP addresses) was seen to be an enhancement. This is because most folks know the _name of the system that they use, and not necessarily the address. If this is a problem for your customer, can you give concrete reasons? There are a number of things that behave differently under NT than they do under DUNIX. Kathy |
