| Well, I took the heads off the pots and they are fine. Pistons look
clean too.
The seizure I believe is caused by the kick-start/gear change mechanism
on the engine (JAWA 638). The kickstart won't depress. The gear
selector was working ok.
Has anyone any ideas how this can be fixed?
Cheers,
Tim

1350.12 | Sounds seized to me | FOUNDR::DODIER | Double Income, Clan'o Kids | Fri Feb 28 1997 08:05 | 13 |
| If the engine is seized, the kick starter won't move either. Reading
a few back, you can use either Liquid Wrench or Marvel Mystery oil and
pour it into each cylinder. Let it sit a night or two, then try to move
each piston using a hammer to strike a piece of wood (1x1) on the top
of the piston.
If the engine has been setting for some time, the piston is usually
what seizes. You're only trying to break it free, so start with little
taps, and if it moves the slightest bit, switch to the other piston. If
you get them both free, then try the kick starter. I have done this
successfully on 2 and 4-strokes without damage. Perhaps I was lucky.
Good luck.....Ray

1350.13 | Split enz | CHEFS::GERRYT | | Fri Feb 28 1997 10:17 | 8 |
| Well, if it has seized, then it's at the bottom end...cos the cylinder
barrells come off fine!
Maybe I'll just have to split the engine!
Cheers,
Tim

1350.14 | Well, that's not it ;-) | FOUNDR::DODIER | Double Income, Clan'o Kids | Fri Feb 28 1997 12:19 | 4 |
| Yep, it's definitely not that if the cylinders come off ;-) Evidently,
the connecting rods and crank look fine, of what you can see of them ?

1350.15 | Not Cylinders | CHEFS::GERRYT | | Tue Mar 11 1997 08:02 | 8 |
| Hello Ray,
Yes, the rods all look fine.......I'm pretty sure its the
kickstart/gearchange problem, but as I haven't a garage to work in it's
a problem during these dark evenings....I hope to look further after
Easter
