Does anyone know of a program that will do Algebra for me? I need
one that can handle variables.

Try MAPLE for real kicks, CALX for secondary kicks, and SC
for an HP scientific calculator (SC won't do variables).
You may want the MATH conference (CLT::MATH), find the kit
for MAPLE in the MODEL::MAPLE conference, CALX in
METOO::SW_TOOLS_CLEARINGHOUSE.
Go for MAPLE.

If you want a fun toy, go get yourself a Hewlett Packard HP-28C
calculator. In addition to algebra, it plots graphs, does calculus
(symbolic and numerical), unit conversions, etc. It's amazing.
