does anyone know how to change the protection code
on a received mail message? i need to delete some mail that
i have renamed, and i have one mail message that has a dcl
program that i want to use, but the protection won't let
me.

If you are refering to the MAIL$()&*#$&^(#$^#@$.MAI files, why not
simply SET FILE/PROT=O:REWD? However, if you change any of these
mail files, you'll confuse the h*ll out of mail. Perhaps you want
to EXTRACT from mail? It really isn't clear from your note what
you want to get done.
