Also posted in electro_hobby and usenet notes files Many many moons ago I saw a very informative writeup on the line noise you can get with a modem on a PBX or central office if the PCM clocks are not in sync. Apparently the adding or discarding of bits causes a phase 'hit' which shows up as a <DEL>{ on a 1200 baud modem. My modem line started doing this last Thursday, and the telco is gonna look into it (well, they are gonna do a 1KHz loss test to start with), but I would really like to be able to find that article. ANyone know what I am talking about and have a copy of the article? I'm not sure if it was a USENET news group or a NOTES file, but I figgered someone here might know. The telco repair guy seems to be very helpful, I'd like to show him the article to explain where I think the problem is... Many thanks in advance. Willie

If you find it elsewhere, please mention it here. Sounds like good info! andy | |||||

I remember the problem, (I never had it, but a friend did) comes from TPC running diagnostics that can't be 'heard' but that do screw up modems - are the appearances of the 'noise' regular? Try the PBX conference, or MODEMS or TERMINALS I believe I saw something in one of those once upon a time... Joe |
