363.0. "TERMINAL POWER ON/OFF NOTIFICATION" by TAV02::NITSAN (Duvdevani, DEC Israel) Thu Dec 04 1986 03:26
I'm posting this question in both TERMINALS and HACKERS conferences:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
There is a way to detect line hangup for terminals using modems.
There is even a way to get notified (asynchronously) of terminal's power on.
For example, by detecting the break sent ($set terminal/disconnect/secure).
Is there any way to detect (asynchronously, i.e., without polling the terminal)
the terminal's power off or other malfunctions of the terminal?
I must say that it looks logically impossible at first glance, but I'm aware of
the amount of brain power hidden behind the Easynet... :-)
Nitsan.
