Hello,
I was wandering if there is anyone that knows what should the
save set names be if the following were real versions of a product
named SAMPLE, which is to be installed using VMSINSTAL.
Consider the following cases:
1. For SAMPLE V1.0 I know that the save set name
will be SAMPLE010.A, .B , etc
2. What will then the saveset name be for
SAMPLE V1.05
3. What about SAMPLE V2.3-345
(This reads as SAMPLE Version V2.3 edit 345 )
4. Is there a DEC standard and if so where can I get info on
versions.
thanks,
Kostas G.

The product version number and update number are appended to the
facility code as a 3 digit integer. The following example demonstrates
the format for naming a product:
facvvu
where
fac is the facility code
vv is the current version number
u is the current update number
So, Sample V2.3-345 would be SAMPLE023.A, etc.
I don't know what to do with 1.05, rename it to 1.1 :-)
You should also register the facility code with DIGITAL VMS Product
Registar.
