| Try PAR5""::VAX_TOOLS:DOSFLX. It works with MS-DOS formatted disks,
not CP/M, but if you have DOSFLX on your CP/M system, you should be
able to read/write DOS format floppies.

Umm, any idea where I could find a program to read/write MessDos
files from CP/M with 96 TPI floppies and a non-standard bios?

| The CPM that came on the DECMATE allows conversion from MSDOS to
CPM format, I think.

| OK, but I don't have a DECMATE, or a Messdos machine of any kind. Does
the Microvax talk to a number of physical formats [bytes per sector,
sectors per track, tracks per inch, MFM or FM, and such like that]?
I seem to be able to talk the same physical format, but now I need a
program so allow the Microvax to read/write the CP/M logical format
[directory structures, block sizes, reserved tracks, sector skewing,
all that fun stuff].

Try CPMFLOPPY in the TOOLSHED. Its written in BASIC so it should
be easy enough for you to modify.

| The TOOLSHED is a repository of neat tools written by various people.
For more information, check out TLE::EASYNET_CONFERENCES, notes
#796 and #870 (Press KP7 or select...). These notes describe the
TOOLSHED conference which is writable by anyone, and the
SW_TOOLS_CATALOG which is read-only to non-moderators and contains
descriptions and installation procedures for many useful tools.
Also, as a side note, you can find information about these software
tools in VTX. The notes indicated will tell you more.

350.12 | Files-11 spec? | PHENIX::SMITH | William P.N. (WOOKIE::) Smith | Fri Jan 23 1987 15:11 | 10 |
| I have a friend who is pretty good with 'C', and he thinks he
might be able to hack up a transfer program under CP/M, but I have
very little idea of the format (files-11?) of the microvax disks
other than the low-level physical format mentioned earlier. Where
can I get a FILES-11 spec (prefereably on-line?)?
Many thanks!

I don't know where you can get one online. I'll check my old directories
and see if I have one. I'ld suggest that your friend go the other way,
tho. A program on the VAX that reads CP/M diskettes. It's significantly
easier to do.
If you have access to the the PRO/Tool Kit V3.0 documentation, there is an
appendix in the Guide to Writing an I/O Driver that describes ODS1. ODS1 is
not as complex as ODS2, but it will give you an idea of the work involved.
There is probably a description in the 11-M doc set, somewhere.
