I haven't heard much about the changes that have come with
VMS version Y4.4 even though it was just installed on the cluster
here. About the only changes that I know of are the changes to
DCL that allow GOSUBs and such. Is there a conference dedicated
to what's new with each version, and why the "Y" instead of V4.4?

A recent topic in VMSNOTES (conference on ISTARI/VAXWRK)
pointed to a directory of some V4.4 info (mostly "slides").
I'd guess the "Y" means some level of field-test. It'll
say "V4.4" when it comes from SDC.

RE: version numbers
The "Y" has no special meaning other than to designate to VMS
people the field test update version of V4.4. The SDC kit will
be called V4.4 -- coming soon to a theater near you.
RE: new features
I believe the doc set is available on-line. I think there is a
pointer to the public location in BULOVA::SYS$KITS:[VMS044]. Did
you look at the release notes? They usually say something about
new features.
