From page 5-83 of the VAX/VMS Guide to System Security (V4.0): Note: Do not permit the captive account command procedure to use the TECO editor; TECO has sufficient capabilities to break out of any captive command procedure.

Doesn't that have something to do with its being installed with CMKRNL? #6 <_Jym_>\

No, it had to be installed with CMKRNL under VMS V1.x for it's memory to work, but that hasn't been necessary since vms V2!! Actually, its EGcommand$ - for example, EGEXIT$$ should get you out of the command procedure; or EGSET VERIFY$ or any number of fun things... like delete the captive command procedure, rename it.. and so on. The mind boggles at the possibilities! -Rick

It has been written that one can have a hacking kind of fun by typing one's name to TECO and seeing what it does. So what does *your* name do to TECO? <_Jym_>

Nothing... my name doesn't end in two escapes. :-) Kevin |
