1292.0. "DE500-AA Hardware Revs?" by CHEFS::CHOIC (Shaking and Moving) Mon Apr 07 1997 13:04

    Hi,

    I have a customer who loaned an ALPHA 1000 to a customer with a DE500 in it.

    The customer went ahead with the purchase and they shipped him the same
    spec kit (but different physical (ie non-loan) hardware). It seems not
    to be working and they are querying the version of the DE500 card: it
    arrived in a box marked "Rev B", but apparently is marked "Rev A" on
    the card.

    Q1: How many Revs of the DE500-AA are there?

    Q2: What are the differences?

    Q3: Is there any reason why a certain DE500 hardware Rev would not work
        on ALPHA VMS V<latest>?

    Thanks,

    CLinton

Look at note 1261.2.

My guess is that they got a -AA instead of -XA so they need the TIMA kit
described in that note. The -AA came out after V6.2 which is why it supports
only the -XA.

1292.2revisions of DE500-AANETCAD::FERGUSONMon Apr 07 1997 19:0528

    Q1: How many Revs of the DE500-AA are there?

	The DE500-AA rev A01 consists of a module rev A01 and
	software kit rev 2.5.

	The DE500-AA rev B01 consists of a module rev A01 and
	software kit rev 2.6.

	As you can see, there has been only one revision of the
	physical adapter. By the way, there is a rev C01 coming
	with module rev A01 and software kit rev 2.7.

    Q2: What are the differences?

	The differences are only in the software kit.

    Q3: Is there any reason why a certain DE500 hardware Rev would not work
        on ALPHA VMS V<latest>?

	Since the VMS driver does not ship on the software kit, it
	instead ships with Open VMS, I can't think of any reason why
	the new adapter would make any difference.

    I agree with Dick in the previous reply that they probably had a
    DE500-XA before.
