Voyager keeps getting better and better... what a thrilling and well written
episode! I'm continually impressed with the show, it is the only programme on
television that maintains a "don't miss" status for me, and it never
disappoints. Last night was another hour of pure well-written joy...
At first I thought I hit a re-run or that they released an unseen episode
saved from the first season. I was becoming concerned since the way the
characters reacted with each other was as stilted and not-fully-developed as
the first season was. And that this presented real and serious continuity
problems with the current timeline, making me feel that the show had dropped
the ball on this one. What a shock when Seska stepped forth! I loved the
writing of this episode, very tightly written and fully believable yet still
a lot of fun with many unexpected twists, and very creative. Trying to
out-write the original holonovel writer, in real time, what an exciting and
creative story concept. You go 'improv' writer Janeway! :-)
If the actors were able to recreate their Day-1 jitters, wow, it worked. I
truly felt this was an episode frozen from that timeframe. In the context of
this story, it was also interesting thinking about how the characters have
changed since then and how they may react differently to the same situations
today. It gave the series some 'weight' in my mind.
I really enjoyed this episode. I can't get enough of B'Elanna especially,
and I like how she is able to telegraph her obvious comfort with Chakotay.
Great job.
And next week, another alien race more powerful than the Borg? Keep 'em
coming...

Do you watch Babylon 5? Now THAT show is one you REALLY can't miss due
to all the plot twists/turns. This show has been a hit/miss (mainly
miss for awhile) due to not caring for some of their story lines and
not enough usage of some of their top-5 or 6 players. Tuvok can be
annoying, Neelix IS annoying, he's slipped to the background it
appears, Kes' new doo ain't that great (imo of course) and her change
in personality is somewhat mis/not understood by myself (now you'll say
I should keep watching it!). Harry has been kind of by the wayside for
a bit also (some episodes anyways).....B5 blows this away in "must see"
tv programs, you really CANNOT miss an episode! I've missed the past
two for reasons due to channel sold (now shopping channel of all
things) and have to get the VCR re/programmed to tape it as it is on a
tad late for me (2:00 am sunday morning or 11:00 pm sunday night now).
I have been watching more DS9 lately, missed half of last week due to
girlfriend very hungry half way through the show ;-( and I am not sure
when the rerun is of saturday night. I know Voy is on late sat. and
sometime before I thought DS9 was on late sundays, but haven't seen it.
We shall see what happens on season finale next week, I WILL be
watching this one! ;-)

1094.4 | as with X-Files, NYPD Blue, etc - cannot relate | APLVEW::DEBRIAE | language by declaration | Thu May 15 1997 17:51 | 15 |

Different strokes... B5 just doesn't do it for me. I've stayed up for
it to give it a chance many times now, it just doesn't click. It feels
too much like a drawn out boring soap opera to me, much in the way Melrose
Place is. I can deal with long story arcs, but I just feel nothing for
any of the characters, which makes the effort seem not worth it. The
station commander, his psychic race wife, the no 2, Billy Mummy,
Gilbert, the sour grapes security cop-show standin... I don't care what
happens to any of the characters, so sticking around for months at
midnight to see what happens to them doesn't hold an attraction.
To me, it's X-Files meets General Hospital but with uninteresting
characters. If I tune in months later, it doesn't seem like I've missed
much. :-) Your mileage may vary...

| Let me check my personal dictionary: "Must-see TV"; see "Star Trek".
This was an excellent show, I agree. One of the best. Almost as good as DS9!
Tuvok was wonderful. I liked that last bit about "Seska isn't the only one who
knows how to make phasers malfunction." Too bad he's not one of the "Big 5"
characters. Ditto Kes. If they want to cut back on characters, cut back on
Paris, Chakotay, and Kim (no, better keep him, he's a musician).

Maybe you guys should start a B5 notesfile. I would watch it from
time to time with my son, until they made the channel a shopping
channel, like we need another one of them! But I found the stories
a little confusing and when B5 had the "big" war with the Shadows
and "other guys" (sorry not up with the lingo) I found the ending
pretty lame. Everyone went off into the universe and left all
the "younger" races alone!?! I don't know, it doesn't do it for
me. Maybe if I could actually watch a whole season and figure it
all out. My son really likes it. But he likes Star Trek better!
To each his own.
I like Star Trek nits and all.

B5 and I should have stopped talking about it myself.

Hey I LIKE Paris and Chakotay! You have to have them for a little
sexual tension...like mine! If you guys got your way it would be
called "Star Trek Babes"! 8^)

I like Chakotay, too! And this episode was great! One of the best Voyager
episodes yet, if not *the* best! I loved all the twists, all of the
attempts to see what would happen if done a _little_ differently.
I liked the characters, and the way the program could compensate for
changes. Outstanding! No easy fix here!

| I agree...a Super episode. I liked the solution Tuvok had come up with for
Janeway and Paris to get back on Voyager...it was pretty funny to have a
shuttle firing on Voy.
I usually have gotten tired of the Holodeck-gone-amok story and even worse,
this was combined with the dread "dead character reappears" story, but it
*worked* on this one.
I also noticed the "older" look and feel, and thought it was nicely done.
And once again, the Doc gets a good one: "20cc Nitric Acid" Cracked me up...

My favorite line was Tuvok.
It was something along the lines of
Computer, override the Doctor's autonomous control and return him to sickbay.
It reminded me of Glenda from the wizard of Oz saying"Get out of here before
someone drops a house on you too."

Since you guys brought it up, I wonder what the ratio is between
males to females on Voyager? They all can't be logging up holodeck
time for holosex?? Yiiipppeee!! 8^)
I guess Janeway keeps track of which programs are being run on the
Holodeck. That could crossover on your right of privacy, don't
you think??
Paris and Chakotay ?!?! Never! Paris and Kim...probally! 8^)
